UP has become a hotbed of terrorists:

4-7-2006

LUCKNOW: Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday cautioned the state government over the growing incidents of terrorist activities in the state, especially in the state capital, which according to it, has emerged fast as a major centre of terrorist activities.

The party even demanded the dismissal of the state government for its failure on the law and order front. Talking to reporters here, leader of opposition in the state Assembly, Lalji Tandon said that be it terror attack in Ayodhya or Varanasi or for that matter the blast in Shramjeevi Express train, the terrorists involved had on some point visited the state capital.

This in itself is a proof that the state capital has become a focal point of terrorist activities, said Tandon. He said that if a thorough search is conducted in the state capital, such a huge quantity of explosive would be recovered.

"It would be enough to blow up the entire city," claimed the BJP leader, who added that the issue was raised by him in the last session of the state Assembly but the state government simply refused to pay heed to it.

The BJP leader said that the state government was not serious on taking action against organisations which were hand-in-glove with terrorist outfits.

"I have definite information that some madarsas in the state were breeding grounds for terrorists. After getting education at these madarsas, such elements go to either Pakistan or Bangladesh to undergo specialised training in subversive activities," claimed the BJP leader.

He said that since the state government has turned a blind eye to their activities for petty political gains, the BJP and been time and again demanding for its dismissal.

Tandon said that out of the six terrorists arrested for alleged involvement in recent terror attack in Varanasi by the special task force, one was arrested thrice in the past but was let off by the court in the absence of a clinching evidence.

"This was owing to the reason that after repealing of POTA by the United Progressive Alliance government, there isn't a stringent law to keep such elements behind the bars."

He said that if the government at the Centre was really concerned to put an effective curb on terrorist activities, it should without any delay formulate a stringent law like POTA
