Terror strike on Karachi beaches fearedBy Indo Asian News Service Islamabad, April 24 (IANS) Security has been increased along the crowded beaches and waterfront of Pakistan's port city Karachi after intelligence reports of possibleSecurity was increased to high alert at Clifton, Hawkesbay, Paradise Point, Keamari and Native Jetty following intelligence reports that terrorists could target the public. Police sources said cameras were installed along the new Clifton beach park, main Sea View boulevard and the parking lot near the fast food restaurants and stalls at the end of Khayaban-e-Shamsheer. Imran Minhas, police chief of Clifton that houses the city's rich and famous, said the focus was on the parking along Sea View. All vehicles that park along the waterfront are being checked. Native Jetty bridge has been cleared of all people. Police have also decided to start a programme on warning people about terrorism and preventive measures through pamphlets which will be distributed to the public. The police official said security had been increased for Thursdays especially when people throng mosques and shrines. A blast on April 11 in Karachi's Nishtar Park killed 50 and injured 100 people.
