Iran, Venezuela underscore unity against threats Tehran, Feb 15, IRNA

Iranian Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel said on Wednesday the strategic unity forged by Venezuela and Iran is rooted in the two countries' struggle for freedom and independence and a response to threats of bullying powers such as the US.

Iran and Venezuela should strengthen their relations in all areas given the conditions that govern today's world, he said during a meeting with Venezuela's National Assembly President Nicholas Maduro. Haddad Adel also expressed hope his visit to Venezuela would be the prologue to greater cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.At the meeting, Venezuela's Nicholas Maduro praised the struggle of the Iranian nation against imperialism and said his country was in the same struggle against imperialism.

He also condemned the blasphemous cartoons published on Prophet Mohammad (PUBH) in several European newspapers, noting that it was part of the imperialist strategy of "creating crisis and sowing discord among certain nations and governments" in order to destabilize these governments.

The Iranian Majlis speaker invited Maduro to take part in an international onference in support of Palestinians rights which is to take place in Tehran in the near future Haddad Adel, heading a high-ranking delegation, left Tehran for Caracas on Sunday.

He and his delegation are on an eight-day tour of a number of Latin and South American countries.On Tuesday, Haddad Adel paid tribute to Venezuela's national hero, Simon Bolivar, by laying a wreath on his grave.

On Monday, he held a meeting with Muslims and Iranians residing in the Venezuelan capital Caracas.
