Cell Phone and Satellite Link

On 2 August 2005, authorities arrested a Lebanese national -- who also has Venezuelan citizenship -- in Mar del Plata on suspicion that he might be a member of a terrorist organization. At the time of the arrest, the suspect was inside of a rented apartment located approximately 250 yd/230 m from the Hermitage Hotel, the site of the Summit of the Americas, which is scheduled to take place in early November. 

Police officers seized 40 cell phones that were connected through de-codifying equipment and a satellite dish, as well as a computer, with which authorities believe the suspect "cloned" other cell phone lines. Authorities also stated that the suspect had made several phone calls to multiple countries in the Middle East. 

An investigation regarding the incident is underway.
