Zawahiri video tape urges quake aidAl Qaeda second-in-command Dr. Ayman al Zawahiri appeared today in a videotaped statement played on Al Jazeera. In the address, Zawahiri calls upon Allah to elevate those killed in the earthquakes in Pakistan to be granted immediate martyr status. He calls upon Muslims to donate to Islamic charities, and slams the US for its actions against Muslim charities a clear reference to US legal action against organizations suspected of funding Al Qaeda. It also directs a slam against the Pakistani government of Musharraf, callng it a "chip of American intelligence". The clear references to the earthquake indicate that the tape was made recently. However, there are several clear differences. This tape, like the last tape, appears to have been made indoors, with no sign of wind whipping around the background as in a tape released by Zawahiri in August. Yet the background is clearly different from any of his recent tapes. A clear indentation is visible in the background just below Zawahiri's shoulders, probably indicative of a seam in the construction of the wall behind him. He is wearing a white turban, instead of the black turban that he wore in the last two tapes. It is worth noting that Zawahiri's signature automatic weapon, which was absent in the last tape, is back at Zawahiri's right hand side, with the gun site proximate to the body. The eyes of the world, as well as the Jihadi's, have seen the devastation left behind by Katrina's brutal force. The Jihadi's have also paid close attention to the US Government's slow response to the disaster, the lack of effective preparedness, and the loss of human lives, particularly of it's lower class citizens. The Jihadi's have been watching the effect on the US economy, the movement of, and the number of our military being deployed to the region, and the comments that have been made by governments all over the world about President Bush's response to the disaster. They are paying particular attention to the oil shortage and the rising cost of gasoline. The Jihadi's response to the destructive force of Hurricane Katrina? Jubilation!!! They have praised Allah for the loss of life and staged explosions around oil pipelines in the Middle East. The Jihadi's know our resources have taken a serious toll and stretched thin, that our borders are wide open, and that although initially slow, that our governments focus is now on the victims and the destruction caused by Katrina. They are even keeping tabs on what countries around the world have offered aid to the United States in the wake of this disaster.
