Bin Laden: I won't be taken alive

NEW YORK: Osama bin Laden has no intention of being captured alive and has designated a special gun to be shot with in the event of imminent capture, says one of the al-Qaeda chief's former bodyguards. Abu Jandal, who was with bin Laden in Afghanistan from 1996 to 2000, said his old boss had given strict instructions on what should happen if he was cornered.

"If he was going to be captured, Sheikh Osama prefers to be killed," Jandal said. "There was a special gun to be used if Sheikh Osama bin Laden was attacked and we were unable to save him, in which case I would have to kill him," the bodyguard said.

Jandal, who lives in Yemen, said he believed bin Laden was hiding in Afghanistan rather than Pakistan and warned his recent threats of another strike on the US should be taken extremely seriously.
"When Sheikh Osama promises something, he does it. So I believe Osama bin Laden is planning a new attack inside the US, this is certain," he said.

Terror attack tomorrow, warn Indonesians

POLICE have intercepted intelligence suggesting there could be a terrorist attack against Westerners in Indonesia as early as tomorrow. Australians have been warned to reconsider travel to Indonesia, with evidence terrorists are in "advanced stages" of an attack. It is understood telephone intercepts by Indonesian police in the last week picked up chatter of possible suicide bombings on key dates from tomorrow on popular Westerner sites. No sites are named but the threat extends to Bali.

Security at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta has been increased. Australian Federal Police have been helping Indonesian counterparts in collecting intelligence. The Department of Foreign Affairs said the risk of a terrorist attack was "very high" saying: "We advise you to reconsider your need to travel to Indonesia, including Bali, at this time due to the very high threat of terrorist attack.

"These reports include information about potentially heightened risk of attack on particular dates. Recent reports suggest April 2, 2006 . . . but attacks could occur at any time, anywhere in Indonesia."

Bird-Flu Pandemic Would Likely Start in California

By Ed Edelson
HealthDay Reporter
Thu Mar 30, 5:08 PM ET

THURSDAY, March 30 (HealthDay News) -- If a bird-flu pandemic does hit the United States, it may well start in California and spread across the country in just two to four weeksAnd the best way to slow its spread would be to have workers stay at home.

That's the scenario drawn from results of a computer model created by researchers at the U.S.National Institutes of Health's Fogarty International Center. And while the results of that computer model should be interpreted with caution, it is based on data from ordinary flu epidemics for the last three decades, said study author Dr. Mark A. Miller, associate director for research at the center.

"The unique feature of this model is that it challenges conventional wisdom, which says that flu is spread by children bringing it back to the household," Miller said. "That may be true at the household level, but regionally it is spread by adults."

That's why measures to keep people at home could slow the spread of infection, Miller said. Another finding in the study is that states with large populations, such as California, are more likely to reach epidemic levels of the flu at the same time than less-populous states, where transmission tends to be more erratic, he said.

So California, the most populous state, would be the most logical place for a pandemic to start, Miller said. Another factor pointing toward California is that bird -- also called avian -- flu is expected to arrive from Asia, he said.

As for the speed of spread, the estimate is based on ordinary epidemics. "What we see is that epidemics with more pathogenic viruses spread more quickly, two to four weeks versus five to seven weeks for less pathogenic viruses nationwide," Miller said.

The findings appear in the March 31 issue of the journal Science.

The Fogarty researchers used epidemiological data on seasonal flu epidemics that have occurred yearly in the United States since 1972. They connected that information with data from the Census Bureau and the federal Department of Transportation, looking at variations in yearly epidemics from state to state and links with local flows of people to workplaces.

Bird flu is pathogenic, but it does not yet spread easily from person to person; close exposure to an infected bird is needed to cause a human infection. The danger will come when, and if, a mutation makes human-to-human transmission easy. Since 2003, the H5N1 bird flu virus has been detected in 45 countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe. More than 100 people have died after coming into contact with infected poultry.

The model developed by the Fogarty researchers can go just so far in predicting what might happen if such a mutation occurs, Miller said. This model notably doesn't include previous pandemics, just ordinary epidemics, and a pandemic might have different characteristics, he said.

Still, the model can help plan for ordinary, predictable epidemics by showing how they start and spread, Miller said. It's also not the first of its kind, he said: "We did a similar model to explain the spread of measles."

HEY WASHINGTON POST!!!

HOW ABOUT GIVING THE LADY SOME CREDIT??????

Try as I may, and against the advice of others, I cannot continue to NOT bring this to your attention, because it is happening over and over again, and it is NOT RIGHT!

Last Sunday, the Washington Post printed an article regarding the capture, and the terrorist antics of Terrorist 007. Okay, no big deal, right? Maybe not, but please read on…

The article they ran was authored by Rita Katz and Michael Kern and can be read in its entirety here. Take a look at this very interesting bit of  ‘journalism’….

Now, take a  look at what Laura Mansfield had to say  about Terrorist 007, in her March 1, 2006 article, Me and Terrorist 007: Tracking a terrorist through cyberspace, which was posted on her website.

This is one of those types of situations that make you go HMMMMMM...but you have to draw your own conclusions, I am simply pointing these two articles out to you. I  would appreciate your comments, please email me at jillstclaire@sbcglobal.net.

Just a side note...the Jihadis have something to say about the Washington Post article.  You can read that here.

Battle follows a day of gruesome discoveries that suggest death squads in Iraq are out of control

Beheaded bodies of thirty men found in Iraq

The discovery of the bodies of 30 beheaded men Sunday suggest death squads in Iraq are becoming out of control, The New York Times reported.

The bodies were found on a main highway that links Baghdad to Baquba -- the scene of recent sectarian violence.

Interior Ministry officials said a driver discovered the bodies heaped in a pile next to the highway.

Iraqi army troops were waiting Sunday night for American support before venturing into the militant-held area to retrieve the bodies, the newspaper said.

"It's too dangerous for us to go in there alone," an Iraqi Army commander said.

Earlier in the day, the corpses of 10 other men -- all bound, blindfolded and shot -- were found in Baghdad.

There has been widespread suspicion that Shiite death squads are targeting Sunni Arab civilians in retribution for a bombing campaign that has killed hundreds of Shiite civilians and destroyed a number of Shiite mosques -- most notably the golden-dome Askariya Shrine in Samarra last month -- the Times reported.

Twelve tortured bodies found in Baghdad

Iraqi police reportedly found 12 bodies in Baghdad on Monday. The victims appeared to be tortured and then strangled.
The corpses are believed to be victims of sectarian violence sparked by the bombing of a Shiite shrine last month, according to reports by the Reuters news agency  Police on 14 March found the bodies of 15 strangled men, their hands and feet bound and showing signs of torture, abandoned in a vehicle in Western Baghdad.  Officials discovered the corpses in the Khudra area, near where the bodies of another 8 men reportedly killed in a similar way were found a week before. The dumping of bodies killed execution-style has long been a feature of the violence in Iraq.

Bin Laden chauffeur challenges Bush

Osama bin Laden's former chauffeur is challenging U.S. President George Bush's authority over militants held at the Guantanamo Bay military prison. Tuesday, an attorney for Salim Ahmed Hamdan will ask the eight of the nine Supreme Court justices to declare unconstitutional the U.S. military commission set to try him for conspiring with his former al-Qaida boss to carry out “terrorist” attacks.

Chief Justice John Roberts had ruled on the case while he was on a federal appeals court and must sit out now, the Washington Post reported Sunday. Hamdan's case calls on the court to stop "this unprecedented arrogation of power."

In response, the administration's brief urges the court not to second-guess the decisions of the commander in chief, the newspaper said. The high court refused the administration's bid to dismiss the case for lack of jurisdiction before hearing arguments, and also has refused to defer completely to the president in two previous terrorism-related cases.

IRAN DENIES ALLEGED TIES WITH AL-QAEDA

(Iran is not being truthful! - Jill)

Tehran, 22 March (AKI) - Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Mohammed Reza Asefi denied on Wednesday US media reports claiming that Iran was hosting and helping al-Qaeda operatives. Asefi said the allegations were "unfounded" and claimed that "the United States are trying to hide their defeat in Iraq with false accusations against Iran." The Islamic Republic has claimed it expelled all members of the terrorist network who fled to Iran in 2001 after the US-led bombing of Afghanistan. US intelligence officials on Tuesday were quoted by the Los Angeles Times as saying that the Iranian regime is playing host to much of al-Qaeda's remaining strategies, citing evidence from highly classified satellite feeds and electronic eavesdropping. Iranian government officials have said in the past that some members of al-Qaeda are currently detained in Iran because they are charged with crimes committed there.

Ottawa terror suspect Khawaja allegedly planned terrorist attack on Jews

Crown attorney David Waters revealed at the Old Bailey trial of seven young Britons charged with plotting a terror campaign against Britain that their presumed Canadian accomplice, Monin Khawaja had bomb detonators in his possession and planned a terrorist attack against Jews. Although Mr. Khawaja has not been charged with any crime in Britain — he is to stand trial on terrorism charges in Ottawa next year and denies any involvement in the supposed plot — Mr. Waters’ seven-hour opening address portrayed the 26-year-old Ottawa computer expert as a "vital" member of the alleged terror cell because of his skills in making the all-important detonators.

When police searched Mr. Khyam’s home in Crawley, a bedroom community about an hour west of London, they found a list of British synagogues, which Mr. Waters suggested were being considered as potential bombing targets. He related that discovery to an October, 2003, e-mail Mr. Khawaja wrote to Mr. Khyam in which he talked of a "one-way operation to the most high ... may be [sic] in Yahoodiland." Mr. Waters said the message suggests Mr. Khawaja had been planning a one-man suicide-bombing campaign against Jews, possibly at a location connected to Israel. "Clearly, six months [later] the plan wasn’t for a suicide bomber," Mr. Waters said, "and the location had changed because all these synagogues in this list were situated in Britain, but the possible targets perhaps had not."

In the summer of 2003, four of the defendants and Mr. Khawaja allegedly attended a terrorist training camp in northern Pakistan, where they learned to make explosives, Mr. Waters said. They were also instructed in the use of the deadly poison ricin, he said. - CanWest News Service

Israel Lifts Alert Level as Terror Threat Rises

(IsraelNN.com) Israel’s security agencies have put the country on a higher security alert in the face of a rise in the number of specific terrorist threats against Israeli targets. In a meeting of Israel’s security agencies Sunday night, it was reported that the country is on alert for 14 specific threats of terrorist attack at various sites, out of a total of 59 general threat alerts.

With the Purim holiday approaching, Israel has imposed a ban on the entry of Arabs from Judea, Samaria, and Gaza into the country’s pre-1967 borders, with exceptions to be made in humanitarian cases. Two terrorists carrying explosives were arrested last night at an army roadblock. The IDF suspects the terrorists were planning to attack over the Purim holiday.

U.S. won't allow Iran to have nuclear weapons, Cheney says

BY KENNETH R. BAZINET
New York Daily News

The U.S. won't allow Iran to have nuclear weapons and is "keeping all options on the table" to prevent that frightening prospect, Vice President Dick Cheney told a powerful Israeli lobbying group Tuesday."The Iranian regime needs to know that if it stays on its present course the international community is prepared to impose meaningful consequences," he said.

The Iranian president's bellicose remarks that he'd like to see Israel "wiped off the map" has only upped the concern over Tehran's refusal to drop its nuclear program, which it insists is peaceful."We join other nations in sending that regime a clear message: We will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon," Cheney vowed to thunderous applause in a speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.Cheney and other officials in the Bush administration have not shied away from this year's AIPAC conference, despite an embarrassing scandal that snared two of group's top former officials.

Ex-AIPAC officials Steven Rosen and Keith Weissman are to stand trial next month for receiving classified U.S. information about Mideast strategy and terrorism. Fired Defense Department analyst Larry Franklin, who aided the alleged spies was sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty last year to passing classified information. But none of that has kept top Democrats and Republicans from speaking at the conference this week and the group's clout remains intact. ``They have moved past it, and I don't think it caused serious damage," said Rep. Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., who spoke at a session on the Syria Accountability law, which he wrote. "In fact, I didn't hear it mentioned once at the conference

US lawmaker eyes key bill to block Dubai ports

By Peter Kaplan and Richard Cowan

WASHINGTON, March 7 (Reuters) - Defying President George W. Bush, Republicans in the House of Representatives on Tuesday moved to block plans by a state-owned Arab company to manage six U.S. ports by attaching an amendment to must-pass spending legislation for the Iraq war and hurricane reliefRepublican leaders backed a plan by Appropriations Committee Chairman Jerry Lewis to push an amendment aimed at stopping the Dubai ports deal the administration had approved, said Ron Bonjean, spokesman for House Speaker Dennis Hastert, an Illinois Republican.

We do not believe the U.S. should allow a state-owned company to run American ports," Bonjean said.Lewis told reporters the port security legislation was still being drafted in the House and work remains with the Senate. But he added, "It is my intention to lay the foundation to block the deal." The House Appropriations Committee is expected to debate the ports amendment, along with the broader spending bill, on Wednesday. Lewis, a California Republican, said his amendment to the emergency spending bill for the Iraq war and hurricane rebuilding would not mandate that only American citizens be involved in running U.S. ports.

He said "the language is designed to deal specifically with the concerns that flow around the United Emirates question." But he also said the measure "could be interpreted to be broader than just a single country." Bush has threatened to veto legislation that attempts to block the $6.85 billion deal under which Dubai Ports World took over the global assets of Britain-based P&O <PO.L> which would give the state-owned Arab company control over managing some facilities at six major U.S. ports. While congressional Republicans were still hoping to work out a deal with the Bush administration, Lewis warned, "We could have a confrontation" with the White House.

POLITICAL PROBLEM

News of the deal the administration had quietly approved unleashed a political firestorm, with opponents charging it posed a potential security threat. The administration agreed to an additional 45-day review of the deal, but Bush has said security concerns were unwarranted. He said security at the ports would remain in U.S. control, and that Dubai, a member of the United Arab Emirates, has been a strong ally in his war against terrorism.Spending bills often become targets for unrelated amendments that cut off funds for projects that are undesirable in the eyes of some lawmakers.

"I have heard from many of my constituents who have strong concerns about the possibility of foreign-owned companies managing U.S. ports. I have also heard from many of the members of my committee who have similar concerns," Lewis said.House Majority Leader John Boehner, an Ohio Republican, called the ports deal "a very big political problem. I have seen it in my district. I have seen it every place I have been."House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter, another California Republican, also announced he was introducing a bill that similarly would forbid foreign companies from owning, operating or managing the U.S. ports like those involved in the Dubai Ports World deal.Hunter said his bill was designed to ensure that all key "national defense critical infrastructure" would be controlled by Americans.Hunter said it would be up to the Pentagon and Department of Homeland Security to decide what facilities fall under that category.

Iraq local politician alleges sectarian massacre

BAGHDAD, March 3 (Reuters) - A local politician in a small town just outside Baghdad said on Friday that police had found the bodies of 25 Shi'ite Muslim victims of a sectarian killing.Baghdad police and Interior Ministry officials in the capital were unable immediately to confirm his account but said they were checking the report. A curfew and security threats mean the town is not accessible to journalists. Alaa Abdul Sahab al-Lamy, from the municipal council in Nahrawan, told Reuters by telephone that gunmen stormed a local power plant at dusk on Thursday and killed four people before killing 21 Shi'ites at a nearby brick factory. "This was a sectarian attack," he said.

The calculation time approached O a calculation ...A warning of the Al-Qaeda network in the two Holy Mosques countries

Quoted From The United Nations Freedom From Fear Report:

Item 80: In our globalized world, the threats we face are interconnected. The rich are vulnerable to the threats that attack the poor and the strong are vulnerable to the weak, as well as vice versa. A nuclear terrorist attack on the United States or Europe would have devastating effects on the whole world. But so would the appearance of a new virulent pandemic disease in a poor country with no effective health-care system.

Item 93: The threat of biological terrorism differs from that of nuclear terrorism. There will soon be thousands of laboratories around the world capable of producing designer bugs with awesome lethal potential.
