The Toronto Sun is reporting that the RCMP are taking threats to "strategic targets of importance" will be targeted in the western, largely English-speaking part of Montreal between Feb. 15 and March 15, very seriously! MONTREAL -- The RCMP is taking "very seriously" a recent threatening letter signed by a group claiming to be a new cell of the FLQ, a Quebec terrorist group active in the 1960s and 1970s. The letter, dated Jan. 15, says "strategic targets of importance" will be targeted in the western, largely English-speaking part of Montreal between Feb. 15 and March 15. It mentions crowded shopping malls, bridges, rail lines, airport facilities, water supplies, municipal buildings and service stations. "We will especially target traffic on main highways," it warns. The letter says the plan of attack is designed "for maximum impact" and warns "it's possible there will be injuries and deaths." 'ALREADY IN PLACE' The letter adds that "a combination of vehicles, letter bombs, remote-control explosive devices will be used and most of these devices are already in place." RCMP Cpl. Luc Bessette said yesterday that businesses which don't conform to Quebec 's French-language sign law were also threatened. The letter, which is signed: "FLQ, Camille-Laurin Cell," is the second of its kind. The first one was received on Nov. 15, 2006. Camille Laurin was a Parti Quebecois cabinet minister responsible for Quebec 's language law in the 1970s. The FLQ was a pro-sovereigntist terrorist group that carried out a campaign of bombings in the 1960s and sparked the 1970 October Crisis when British diplomat James Cross was kidnapped and then Quebec labour minister Pierre Laporte was kidnapped and later killed. Bessette said the RCMP is not dismissing the threats. "Anything that has to do with the integrity and security of our citizens is always taken seriously," he said. But the officer stressed there's no indication those responsible for the letter can carry out their threats. The Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, which includes Montreal police, provincial police, the RCMP and Canadian Security Intelligence Service agents are investigating.

1-18-2007 Doomsday Clock moves closer to midnight 1-13-2007 New Arms Shipments to Iraqi Militia Detected(ABC News Blotter) US military intelligence sources tell ABC News that large shipments of weapons have been smuggled to Iraqi militia over the past five weeks, including dozens of Iranian supplied EFP's , or Explosive Form Projectiles, highly effective against armored vehicles. The weapons were sent to Moqtada al Sadr's Shi'a militia, known as "Mahdi’s Army" who control Sadr City, a slum in northern Baghdad with a population of 2 million. US and Iraqi intelligence units on the ground detected the shipments which are believed to be of Iranian origin. In addition, US military sources tell ABC, Al Sadr has been working on his own "surge," actively recruiting hundreds of residents of Sadr City to supplement the 8 to 10,000 militiamen already believed to make up the "Mahdi Army" in Baghdad. Bahaa al-Araji, one of Moqtada al-Sadr's representatives in the Iraqi parliament, has told ABC News that the radical Shiite cleric has ordered his Mahdi Army not to attack US forces -- even if targeted. But the increased arms shipments from Iran and intensified recruiting are yet another troubling sign of the difficulties facing the new Bush war plan which Ambassador Negroponte alluded to in his congressional testimony yesterday. "One has to wonder why it is they (Iran) have increased their supply of these kinds of lethal weapons to extremists Shi'a groups in Iraq, provoking violence, attacks on coalition forces and others. And one wonders if their policy towards Iraq may not have shifted to a more aggressive posture than it has been in the past."
1-12-2007 Explosion heard within US embassy in Athens: police ATHENS (AFP) - Greek police sealed off one of Athens' main avenues after a loud explosion was heard inside the American embassy, police and fire department sources said. Four fire engines rushed to the scene, amid reports that the explosion struck the embassy building's third floor at 5:55 am (0355 GMT), the fire department said. A US State Department spokesman in Washington said there were no casualties. "At approximatly 11 pm eastern time, 6 am local time (0400 GMT) there was an explosion at the US embassy in Athens," US State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper said in a brief statement in Washington. "There are no injuries or casualties of any kind. Police have responded. As a result, the embassy will be closed today Friday the 12th of January." Curtis said that US officials "will endeavour to have further information Friday morning Washington time." One witness said the blast hit in the courtyard near the embassy's front entrance. "The explosion sounded in the courtyard, then a fire broke out over the central entrance, where the emblem is situated," a Greek motorist told private Skai radio. The American embassy is among the best-guarded buildings in the Greek capital. Police said they are investigating with sniffer dogs. Blast at U.S. embassy called 'terrorism' ATHENS, Greece - A rocket was fired at the U.S. embassy early Friday, striking the front of the building but causing no injuries. A senior police official said the blast was an act of terrorism. Police cordoned off streets around the heavily guarded building after the explosion shortly before 6 a.m. The shell struck the third floor and smashed glass in nearby buildings. Investigators found the device used to fire the rocket shell at a construction site near the embassy. "This is an act of terrorism. We don't know where from," Attica Police Chief Asimakis Golfis said. "There was a shell that exploded in the toilets of the building ... It was fired from street level." Embassy officials confirmed that an explosion had taken place and said that no one had been injured. U.S. ambassador Charles Reis said the damage was "not extensive." "There can be no justification for such a senseless act of violence ... The embassy was occupied at the time (but) nobody was hurt, he said. Authorities were searching apartment buildings near the U.S. Embassy and a nearby hospital for evidence. "I heard a loud bang I didn't realize what was going on," said Giorgos Yiannoulis, who runs a kiosk near the embassy. Traffic came to a standstill across parts of central Athens, as police and emergency services scrambled to the embassy building, which is a frequent destination for protest groups. It was the first major attack against a U.S. target in more than a decade, following the arrest of members of Greece's far-left November 17 terrorist group. The group was blamed for killing 23 people — including U.S., British and Turkish officials — and dozens of bomb attacks. In 2003, a special court gave multiple life sentences to November 17's leader, chief assassin and three other members. Lesser sentences were given to 10 others. 1-11-2007 Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki recognizes that the American ambassador requested the postponement of Saddam's execution

1-9-2007 U.S. Anti terror Aid OK For Police Salaries in Six Places Including New York City "The six metropolitan areas deemed at greatest risks for a terror attack now will be able to use federal grants to pay salaries of police officers assigned to counter terrorism jobs like guarding city bridges and subway tunnels, the New York Times reports. The rules change will apply New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Washington, and San Francisco. " "These six urban areas will share $411 million in antiterrorism grants this year, while 39 other areas will compete for the remaining $336 million in available grants. New York City had lobbied for the change. Previously, while some grant money could be used for overtime, federal officials pushed cities to use the money to buy antiterrorism equipment like gas masks or surveillance systems rather than for salaries." - Crime and Justice News 1-8-2007 China claims 18 killed in terror training camp AND NOW THE LATEST: Authorities: Miami package was harmless!! Banker Of Al Qaeda London, England (AHN) - A British man charged of being a banker for the al Qaeda terror network on Sunday denied accusations from London and Washington that he played a key role in the Osama bin Laden organization. The U.S. Treasury and the Bank of England, both froze the assets of Mohammed al Ghabra last month in connection with the sanctions imposed by the United Nations to choke the finances of the terrorist network. Ghabra was being pinpointed for supporting al Qaeda and other violent jihadist groups by assisting recruits to travel to meet al Qaeda leader in Pakistan and take part in terrorist training. He is also accused of helping some British nationals to travel to Iraq to fight coalition forces, which is becoming a growing concern among intelligence agencies alongside radicalization of British Muslims in Pakistan. But Ghabra denied the allegation and told the Sunday Times, "If I am the money-maker and this is why they have decided to put the sanctions against me, how could I have so many financial problems myself?" He adds, "I don't have the capability of supporting anyone financially, barely myself. If anyone has the evidence, please show it to me. I am not the banker." 1-3-2007 Official held in Saddam hanging video 6 of 75 cities get top disaster rating From The Forums: A message to the

The Adam Air Boeing 737-400 lost contact with the ground yesterday about an hour before it was due to land in Manado in North Sulawesi, Tatang Ikhsan, director general at the transport ministry, said. It had been flying at 10,670 metres. An official said efforts to reach the co-pilot by mobile telephone indicated the plane was on the ground rather than in the sea, where the telephone would be unlikely to work. "There was a ring tone, but no answer," said Abdul Gani, a Search and Rescue duty officer at Makassar, capital of the region from where a distress signal was picked up by satellite. Speaking to Reuters by telephone, Gani said the signal indicated the plane might be in a mountainous area. Air and sea searches would begin in the morning, he said. Ikhsan said the flight had originated in Jakarta, taken off from a stopover in Surabaya on Java island at 1pm local time (1700 AEDT) and been scheduled to land just over two hours later in Manado. At a news conference late yesterday he said the satellite, in Singapore, had dectected the distress signal 154 km north-west of Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi province, 1,400 km east of Jakarta. "We call on other flights which crossed this route to provide information on any distress signal," he said. Transport Minister Hatta Rajasa said the plane had been sighted by another plane above the Mamuju forest on Sulawesi. "Let's hope it made an emergency landing," he told Elshinta radio, adding that rescuers had been sent to the area. At Jakarta's main commercial airport, where the flight began its journey, taxi driver Oswald Mamalani told Reuters his younger sister and her child were aboard the plane. "When I arrived home, I got a phone call from a relative in Manado asking me to pray... for the safety of my sister," he said. "So far I feel that my sister is still alive." First Marshal Eddy Suyanto, commander of Hasanuddin air base in Makassar, told Metro television: "We have contacted related agencies and several groups have travelled by road to locations where we think the plane might have gone down but so far there has not been any information." The transport ministry's Ikhsan said the plane was airworthy and last serviced in December 2005. It has 45,371 flying hours, and according to Adam Air the 17-year-old aircraft's engines are CFM56-3C1 models made by General Electric. "The weather conditions all over our country are not very good. We have notified all airlines ... All flights should have received complete information," he said. Much of Indonesia was cloudy with rainfall yesterday. An Adam Air Boeing 737-300 plane was forced to make an emergency landing in February at a small airport in East Nusa Tenggara province after a navigational failure caused the pilot to lose contact with the destination airport in Makassar. Adam Air, one of about a dozen
budget airlines in the world's fourth most populous nation, operates 19
Boeing 737 jets. It serves dozens of domestic routes in Indonesia and also
flies to Singapore. The airline was established by two Indonesians, Agung
Laksono, the speaker of the house of representatives, who is chairman of
the company, and Sandra Ang, in 2002 and commenced operations on Dec. 19,
2003. In January a newspaper report said Adam Air was planning a share
listing in Singapore for 2008. Air travel in Indonesia, home to 220
million people, has grown substantially since the liberalisation of the
airline industry after the Asian financial crisis in the late 1990s, which
enabled privately owned budget airlines to operate. AlJazeera's Q&A with EU's counter-terror chief Sen.
